Tip #1

Provide a customized Web Filter message

When you block specific web content as outlined in Blocking Web Filter for Specific Websites, you can provide a customized message by editing the Category text. For example, if you block users from visiting myspace.com, you can edit the default category text, socialnetworking, to read, Visiting social networking sites is against company policy.

Identify web content that your users require

To prevent help desk costs in the event that users call your company's help desk to request access to a blocked website, identify the users that require special privileges—before you block websites. You can do so by logging all website access in order to monitor who needs special privileges. Once you identify these users, create a virtual rack for these users.

Tip #2

If you have some users that need full access to the web and not be subjected to the block categories/lists, this tip will be an easy solution. As you know, the Web Filter module offers both pass and block URLs. On the Pass List tab, you have the option to click the "Clients". You can add the client's IP address and this client will be able to go anywhere on the web, while everyone else be be subjected to the block and pass categories/lists.

Please note that this would require that affected client(s) have a static IP address so that they are consistently associated with the same IP address as entered into the Pass List.
