Modifying Data Transfer Mode
You can change the speed at which network interfaces send data over the network. When interfacing with old hardware, you might need to downgrade a given port from its default Auto-Negotiate setting to a more limiting setting. However, networking hardware that requires a transfer rate limitation (100/10 Mbps) or that cannot auto-negotiate has not been readily available for several years, and it's unlikely that you need to modify these settings.
To change the data transfer speed:
- From the Navigation Pane, click Config tab > Support. The Support Config window launches.
- Click the Network Interfaces tab.
- In the table, select the row that corresponds to the network interface to be changed.
- In the mode drop-down list, select the transmission speed that you want. The default is Auto-Negotiate.
- Half-duplex. Data can travel in both directions, but not simultaneously.
- Full-duplex. Data can travel in both directions simultaneously.
- Click the Save Settings button.
Enabling Untangle Technical Support To Help You Troubleshoot
There are two ways in which Untangle Technical Support can assist in troubleshooting:
- Remote access
- Email notifications
If you need Untangle Technical Support or their authorized representatives to troubleshoot problems with your Untangle Server, they need remote access to your Untangle Server.
Optionally, you can ensure that your Untangle Server notifies Untangle of specific problems with your Untangle Server. This notification occurs through email, and no sensitive network information is transmitted.
To enable Untangle Technical Support remote access:
- From the Untangle Client, click Config tab > Support. The Support Config window launches.
- Click the Access Restrictions tab.
- Select the Allow radio button.
- (Optional) Select the Report check box, to have your Untangle Server send internal log messages to Untangle Technical Support in the event of unexpected conditions.
- Click the Save Settings button.
Verifying if a Network Computer is Accessible
Using Untangle Server's Ping Test, you can determine if a specific system is accessible on the network and what its IP address is, if you only know its hostname.
To verify if a system is accessible on the network:
- From the Untangle Client, click Config > Support Config. The Support Config window launches.
- Click the Ping tab.
- In IP Address or Hostname text box, provide either the IP address or the hostname of the system that you want to contact, and click the Run Ping Text button.
- If you receive a message like the following, the system was accessible:
PING myhost.dnsdojo.net (198.144.196.51) total tx: 5, total time: 4016.0 ms, percent answered: 20% sequence: 5 ttl: 64, delay: 0.047 ms, size: 45 bytes
- If you provide an incorrect hostname or the DNS Server does not know that hostname, you receive a Unable to resolve the host message.
