You must call Untangle Technical Support. For more information, go to Unsubscribing from Paid Software Products.

What's an Activation Key?

An activation key is a unique 16-digital alpha numeric code that distinguishes your Untangle Server from another, much like a MAC address. If you purchased your Untangle Server hardware from Untangle, your Untangle Server is preconfigured with this key; it also appears on a white label on the chassis. If you installed your Untangle Server yourself, your Untangle Server fetches an activation key when it connects to the Internet.

  • If you reinstall your Untangle Server, you will delete the activation key. Upon connecting to the Internet, your Untangle Server fetches a new activation key. Your old activation key immediately becomes inactive.
  • If you reset to factory defaults, your Untangle Server saves its activation key.

The activation key helps Untangle Technical Support identify you when you call for Technical Support. Untangle Technical Support wants to ensure that someone isn't stealing your identity. Also, your activation key is associated with your system configuration, and this helps Technical Support troubleshoot in the event that you have a problem that needs to be resolved.

What's an Authorization Code?

If you want to purchase a paid product using a purchase order, Untangle's store prompts you for an authorization code. Untangle's store doesn't prompt you for an authorization code if you make a credit card purchase. To obtain an authorization code, you must contact Untangle Technical Support. This authorization code is valid for 1 day, then it expires; during this window, you can make your purchase using purchase order # and this authorization code.

What's a Trial License Key?

A license key is a key for individual trials. Each time you sign up for a trial, your Untangle Server receives and records a license key for that trial. Your Untangle Server provides you a count down for that trial period.

Why do I get [Activation Key] Registered By Another User error?

When you try to purchase a paid software product from an Untangle Server that is not associated with your email address, you will receive the following error message. Simply contact Technical Support to update your account information.

What does Installed mean?

If the word Installed appears next to a package in the online store, this means that you've installed the product into Navigation Pane > My Apps. The installation could have been in the form of a trial or a subscription. Whenever Installed appears, you should have a corresponding package under My Apps.

(Rack Products) How do I know if my trial has expired?

A rack product refers to a product or service that installs into your rack. A rack product has a flaceplate. Most products are rack products, with the exception of AD Connector and Policy Manager.

You can identify an expired trial by looking at the product's faceplate in the rack. If expired, the product's faceplate indicates Trial (expired). If it hasn't expired, then the faceplate indicates how many days remain before the trial expires.

(Non-Rack Products) How do I know if my trial has expired?

A non-rack product refers to a product that does not install into a rack. A rack product has a flaceplate, and non-rack products do not. AD Connector and Policy Manager are non-rack products.

Can I make configuration changes to an expired trial?

Yes, with the exception of Policy Manager and AD Connector. When a trial expires for a software product, you can still access the product's configuration tabs. You can also make changes to the product. However, you can't actually use the product. The product itself is disabled—even though the product's faceplate indicates that the product is on (as evidenced by the green power button as shown in Figure, Identifying an Expired Trial).

For example, if Remote Access Portal expires, you can access your configuration settings in the product's interface; however, if you try to log on to Remote Access Portal, the following error message appears:

The same is true for Remote PC:

If a trial expires and then I purchase, What happens to my settings?

A trial expiration doesn't delete your configuration settings for a product. (However, as is the case with a purchased product, if you uninstall the product from the rack, you will lose all configuration data.) When you purchase the product, Untangle Server simply replaces the expired product in your rack with the purchased product, preserving all configuration settings that you set during the trial period.

Does a reset to factory defaults reset trials?

No. If you reset to factory defaults, your trial history is saved.

Untangle Server has built-in intelligence that enables it to remember license keys. Under no circumstances will the Untangle Server provide you another (duplicate) trial for the same component. You can always trial a new component for which you have no pre-existing trial recorded.

What happens when I trial a component of ProPack, then trial the entire ProPack?

You can trial the Professional Package at any stage—even after a Professional Package component expires.

However, the Professional Package component's counter doesn't reset. In other words, if a component is to expire in 5 days, then that limitation continues even if you trial the component as part of the Professional Package. Similarly, if the component's trial expired, that component remains expired.

For example, if you accept a trial for AD Connector, then upon expiration accept a trial for the Professional Package, which includes AD Connector, Active Directory indicates expired and the product itself won't work, though it appears in your rack until you uninstall it.

Do my open-source products still work after my ProPack expires?

Yes. The open-source (free) products remain in your rack and never expire as shown in Figure, Identifying an Expired Trial. It doesn't matter that you obtained them via a Professional Package trial.
