Choosing Which Software Products To Install

Now that your Untangle Server is up and running, let's install the products that you need. You're probably wondering, What products should I install? Good question.

Untangle enables you to build a custom solution from a large pool of product offerings. Here's how we do it:

Method Overview
Bundle From the Library, choose from the two bundles:
Ala Carte From the Library, pick and choose from both free and paid products.
Wizard From the the Application Wizard, answer a series of questions. Based on your answers, the wizard prompts you to install a recommended list of products (you can modify this list, if you want).

(Bundle or Ala Carte) Downloading Free and Paid Software Products

By default, the Library contains all the Software Products that you can download from Untangle. As you download Software Products, the Software Product icons move from your Library to My Apps and the Default Rack. If your Library is empty, don't be alarmed. An empty Library means that you downloaded all the products, and these product appear in My Apps.

To download a Software Product:

Before You Begin: Choose Which Software Products To Install

  1. From the Navigation Pane, click the Library tab.
  2. Click the icon for the Software Product or bundle that you want to download.
  3. Install available updates. If there are updates available for the Untangle Server, Untangle Client, or the Software Product that you want to install, the Untangle Client prompts you to upgrade; otherwise, Untangle's online Library launches in your web browser. You are either presented with either a Trial button or Purchase button or both, depending on the product.
  4. Choose to purchase or trial a paid product/package or download a free product. To learn about trials, go to Purchasing & Subscription FAQs.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to download the Software Product.
  6. Verify that your products are installed:
  • If the Software Product appears in your My Apps and in your Default Rack, you successfully downloaded the Software Product.
  • If don't see the product, don't be alarmed. Untangle product offerings install as virtual rack products, services products, and non-rack products. Non-rack products do not show up in your rack. You must drill down into the GUI to configure them. To determine if your product is installed, go to Purchasing & Subscription FAQs.

(Wizard) Downloading Free and Paid Software Products

By default, the Library contains all the Software Products that you can download from Untangle. As you download Software Products, the Software Product icons move from your Library to My Apps and the Default Rack. If your Library is empty, don't be alarmed. The wizard installs a recommended list of products, though you can modify this selection:

  • For paid products, the wizard adds the bundle that contains the paid product(s) that you need. You can choose not to install this package. You must install the entire bundle to get any of the products that it contains.
  • For free products, the wizard adds the individual products that you need. You don't need to install all of them as you can pick and choose.

To download a Software Product:

  1. From the rack, click the which application should I use? button.
  2. Install available updates. If there are updates available for the Untangle Server, Untangle Client, or the Software Product that you want to install, the Untangle Client prompts you to upgrade; otherwise, the wizard launches.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions, selecting the check boxes that represent your needs.

  5. Verify that your products are installed:
    • If the Software Product appears in your My Apps and in your Default Rack, you successfully downloaded the Software Product.
    • If don't see the product, don't be alarmed. Untangle product offerings install as virtual rack products, services products, and non-rack products. Non-rack products do not show up in your rack.     Uninstalling Free Software Products

    Use this procedure if you want to uninstall a free Software Product.

    To uninstall a free Software Product:

    Warning: When you remove a Software Product, you delete all configuration information for that Software Product.

    1. Determine if the Software Product you want ot uninstall is a Service Software Product or a Non-Service Software Product.
      • All Service Software Products appear under the Services pane of a virtual rack.
      • All Non-Service Software Product appear above the Services pane of a virtual rack.

      Warning: Non-Service Software Products require that you remove the Software Product from all virtual racks manually. If a Service Software Product exists in more than one virtual rack, when you remove that Software Product, Untangle Server removes that Software Product from all virtual racks.

    2. Remove the Software Product from the required virtual rack(s) by doing one of the following:

      • If you want to remove a Services Software Product, remove the Software Product from any rack that contains the Software Product.
      • If you want to remove a Non-Services Software Product, remove the Software Product from all virtual racks.
      • From the Software Product's faceplace, Shift-click on the power toggle. The Software Product disappears from the virtual rack, and now appears in your My Apps.
      • From the Software Product's faceplace, click the Show Settings button, and click Remove button. The Software Product disappears from the virtual rack, and now appears in your My Apps.

    Unsubscribing from Paid Software Products

    Uninstalling a paid Software Product from a rack does not mean that you unsubscribed from that Software Product. If you do not unsubscribe, Untangle Server continues to bill you for that subscription.

    To unsubscribe from a paid Software Product, you must phone Untangle Technical Support.
