Based on feedback, for the 6.1 changelog we're going to try something new and divide the changelog into 'Free' and 'Paid.' Free changes are part of the platform or applications that are free and open source. Paid changes are part of the paid applications.

Free

Platform

• 6.1 is now based on Debian Lenny (a much newer version)
  • Upgrading to version 6.1 takes a long time - DO NOT REBOOT during this time.
• 6.1 has a new Debian Lenny based installer which is faster, easier, and has better hardware support
• 6.1 runs on a new kernel (2.6.26)
  • Upgrades will get the new kernel but continue to boot the old kernel until the new one is explicitly chosen.
• Many bugs fixed by debian upgrade (#5944, #3351, #5541, #5587, #5588)
• Network settings (alpaca) are now fully i18n and skinnable
• Many i18n fixes.
• Bootsplash and background have changed (thanks SilverBullet!)

Spam Blocker

• Spam Blocker received a major facelift - should be much more effective and has more requested settings.
• Two levels of spam control (#2252, #3728)
• Per-User passlist is actually now per-user (#2222)
• Spamassassin rules are now sa-compiled for better performance (#5377)
• Spam Blocker now has a fail-open, fail-closed setting (#5480)
• Spamassassin information can be added to the headers transparently (#5481)
• Remove 10x multiplier in custom settings. (#5704)
• Quarantine has ability to view more emails (#5707)

Web Filter

• The block page now shows correct "description" (#5412)
• Fixed top 15 logged violators report (#5561)
• Rename "IP addresses" to "Clients" in pass list. (#5732)

Other

• Reports received various bugfixes (#5642)
• SIP NAT helper now has enable/disable checkbox (#4491)
• DNS override fixed (#5645)
• Several 'reset to factory defaults' fixes (#5607)
• DHCP server is now off during install (#5871)
• Added auto-refresh button (#5231)
• Uptime no longer in seconds (#5571)

Paid

Commtouch Spam Booster

• New application added that install Commtouch's spam upgrade.
• This app boosts the effectiveness of your already installed Spam Blocker by adding a commtouch proprietary spamassassin plugin.

Other

• Fixed varios Remote Access Portal issues (#5612, #5656)

Special Notes

• The new installer will only use 80 gig of the disk for the main partition (the rest will be used in the future for other purposes)
• How to enable SSH has changed - Enable SSH
• For those with custom skins if the skin is incompatible with 6.1 changes you will be presented with a message and switched back to the default skin.
• There are some new errors messages that display on the screen briefly during boot and shutdown - these can be safely ignored.
• There are some known issues with VMware and large fonts (#5939)
