4.0 Changelog
From UntangleWiki
Trial Versions
- Trial versions of EdgeGuard Appliances are now available from the Metavize Store. These are completely free for 30 days. After 30 days the appliance will automatically turn off.
- During the trial period, the appliance may be purchased from the store at any time, including after expiration. Once purchased, the running appliance will automatically convert into the full version, preserving any configuration and event information.
EdgeReport
Web Content Control EdgeReport
- The incident section for the Web Content Control EdgeReport now contains details for up to 5000 policy violation events.
SpamGuard EdgeReport
- The incident section for the SpamGuard EdgeReport now lists only spam events, and includes their email's subject.
EdgeReport Email
- To simplify and reduce the size of EdgeReport emails, each EdgeReport is now emailed as a single PDF file attachment. Depending on your email client, the EdgeReport PDF file may be viewed inline, opened in a PDF reader, or downloaded for later viewing.
Configuration
- The administrator may now control daily, weekly, and monthly EdgeReports using simple schedules. This allows the administrator to enable or disable daily EdgeReports; to enable weekly EdgeReports by selecting a specific day or days of every week or to disable weekly EdgeReports; and to enable monthly EdgeReports by selecting the first of every month, a specific day of every week, or every day of every month, or to disable monthly EdgeReports.
- In addition, the administrator may now configure EdgeReport emails that contain EdgeReport PDF files with or without incident sections. The EdgeReport PDF files with and without incident sections are also now available through the EdgeReport web interface and identified as detailed and briefing, respectively.
Web Control
- Three new categories have been added: Online Shopping, Social Networking, and Anonymous Web Surfing.
- The ability to pass while logging has been added to the Block Lists. This allows monitoring questionable web usage without blocking it. Policy violations are viewable in the Event Log and in EdgeReport.
- For those who need the strictest web control, it is now possible to block ALL web traffic except for those sites that are explictly allowed via the pass list.
User Directory
Active Directory integration
- For customers who have an existing Active Directory server, this may be used to provide user authentification for other appliances
Configuration
- There is now a user directory provided by EdgeGuard. This can be used to define local users if the customer does not already have an Active Directory server providing the user directory. Users can be added, their passwords reset, etc.
- The user directory is included in the EdgeGuard backup/restore process, so restoring a backup will restore the user directory as well.
Setup Wizard
- The setup wizard has been streamlined in this release. In particular it now recommends the correct setting for the formerly difficult router/bridge step. The wizard should now correctly establish DHCP connectivity in all situations. Also the Router appliance no longer appears in the Toolbox if it is not used.
Remote access to EdgeGuard
- Control over secure remote access to EdgeGuard (https port 443) has been enhanced. A Separate control is now provided for whether quarantine can be accessed remotely. If an appliance needing secure remote access (such as OpenVPN) is installed, access is automatically enabled.
Quarantine
- The quarantine safe-list is now accessible from the administration UI. This allows the administrator to add new entries to the global 'From address' safe list (which is applied to POP/IMAP emails also)
OpenVPN
- The administrator may now change the network port which is used for communication (default 1194).
- Site to site VPN configurations are now fully supported, including emailing between two EdgeGuards.
Router
- The Redirect panel inside of the Router Application has been streamlined for ease of use. There are now two types of redirects, "Port Forwards" and Redirects. "Port Forwards" are simplified redirects that are designed to make a server on the internal network available to the outside world. Redirects implement the full power of traffic redirection that was available in previous releases.
- Certain redirects are now able to return back into the local network.
Virus Scanners
- The Mime Type List has been simplified. For fresh installations, only 'message/*' will appear in the list.
- EdgeGuard is now compatible with Extended Passive and Extended Active mode FTP. This should support a wider range of FTP clients.
Rogue Protocol Control
- The tencent rule, which was giving false positives, has been removed. A new rule has been added for the iMesh peer to peer application.
Attack Shield
- The Attack Shield has been tuned to better separate legitimate network traffic from unwanted traffic.
Syslog
- Syslog event reporting has been improved. Event data are more complete and provided at correct levels (info/notice/warn), permitting finer grain event control.
Configuration
Reconfiguration
- Network reconfiguration is now significantly faster.
DHCP
- Edgeguard could not obtain a network address via DHCP from certain cable modem ISPs. All known providers are now correctly supported.
Ping control
- Inside the "Support" panel there is now the ability to allow or deny pinging the EdgeGuard.
Timezone
- The current time as seen by EdgeGuard is now provided in the Timezone setting panel.
